Ring Of Fortune

I’m a sucker for novelty, so it is no wonder that I’ll try almost anything the fast food or QSRs come up with. Most times the offerings are lackluster – food porn which does the real thing no justice at all.

Is it my camera or does this look nothing like the ad?
During the Chinese New Year season Pizza Hut offered the Ring Of Fortune. Their marketing spiel went, “Abundant with succulent char-grilled chicken on a special double crust stuffed with golden cheese and sprinkled with crispy cornflakes. Made even more auspicious with red capsicums, pineapple tidbits, and yellow onions.”

Nothing could live up to a hard sell like that! I found the cornflakes a nuisance and an oddity, and wondered what they did with the squares they cut out of the middle of each of these pizzas in order to make them look like old Chinese coins. Taste wise, it was not offensive, but it could have been a dressed up Hawaiian if it was not for the fanfare.
Our dark horse - the Tandoori pizza.

Strangely enough, what impressed Kit and I was the Tandoori pizza! The flavour was exceptional and the leap from flat bread to pizza dough was a very comfortable one. No wonder it still is on the menu after the ring has rung!
