It’s Not A Wrap

Another food item from the club that just did not make my cut. This was the March promotional dish – fried rice in lotus leaf. I am not sure what the preparation method was, if they steamed the rice before frying it, but the flavours clashed horribly.

Lotus leaf has a strong, aromatic flavour on its own, and is best used with plain rice, or played off strong soya sauce based dishes. This pairing however, made really bad food music, since there was a dis-resonance with the way the fried rice played with the aroma of the lotus leaf. It smelled rather like a pond drying out in hot weather. And the rice was dry and grainy as if it were dried out as well. Fail!
