We've found a new place for good Chinese-style roasted meats, thanks to my folks. Ming Chu styles itself a 'roasted restaurant'. Their English may not be good, but their food certainly is. It's an open concept eating place, in an old mall in a non-snazzy locale, but the place is clean, the service is decent (if only in Cantonese and Mandarin), and the roast meats are really good.

Their display window of roast meats really stimulates the appetite. |
They offer roast chicken, duck, char siew and pork (siew yok). I really like roast chicken, but we simply could not eat that much meat, so we had half a duck (RM30), a plate of char siew and a plate of siew yok, both RM12 each. We also got a bowl of wantan soup noodles for RM2 (what a steal!) and a plate of fried wantan for RM7.

The duck was tender, not overly gamey and with very little fat. Very good! |
The char siew was lean, but moist, and the sauce was really sweet and appetizing. |
Personally, I feel siew yok has to be fatty to be good, so this was pretty yummy for me. |
The fried wantan were crispy, light and nearly oil-free. |
RM2 for a big bowl of plain wantan noodles with vegetables. What a bargain! And it was tasty too! |
Even the pickled green chillies and the chili sauce were good! |
The chicken rice only cost RM1.50 per helping, and it was as rich, yellow and creamy as the best chicken rice I have ever had. Chinese tea was 80 sen for a large glass, and there was no government tax. The meal for four, which could have fed six, came up to RM74.95. Really good value!
