Sunshine Kebabs

My memories of college are linked with the then newly opened chain of Kyros Kebab kiosks, one of which was in Kota Raya shopping centre in the heart of the city. My banker mum worked across from that mall, and I would stop by to see her for lunch after classes and we would grab kebabs. That was the beginning of the real friendship I developed with my mother, and kebabs will always equal mum-daughter talk to me.
Add a little Sunshine to your life!
Menus are simple and choices easy at Sunshine Kebabs!

I was pleased to find that kebabs may be gaining a resurgence in popularity. The opening of Sunshine Kebabs in Subang Parade means I have another option of a quick meal which is healthier than the usual fast food. A big plus is that Sunshine Kebabs offers falafels! Falafels are the Middle Eastern version of the local Indian uru vadai (the round, flat discs made out of dhall). Falafels are not as spicy or piquant, using neither dried red chilli or fresh green chillies, but they are nevertheless very satisfying and savoury when cooked well, and the rich flavour of the lentils come out in their creamy glory.
Falafel kebab with jalapenos. Yum!

The falafel at Sunshine comes out a bit short, but still passable. The falafel combo kebab comes with a regular drink for RM9.90. If you choose a non-carbonated fountain drink like Heaven & Earth iced tea, your good eating options can go up a notch.
Beef kebab.

The beef combo kebab and chips cost RM13.50 with a drink. Across the board the food is good. The flatbreads are fresh and toasted when ordered, the meats sliced from the hunk of kebab meat. There is an option of adding jalapenos or black olives at RM1 per condiment.
Lovely, thick chips are better than fries any day!

A meal for two came up to RM23.40. Pretty decent if you don't mind waiting about 15 minutes for the food.
Note to the operators: you might want to consider getting your staff to wipe down the sauce bottles periodically. Malaysians have a disgusting habit of putting the cap back on to the bottle when there is still ketchup on the rim, resulting in a sticky, unpleasant surprise for the next customer. Also, what's with the use of two brands of ketchup? Are you phasing out Swiss Bear for Maggie?
