Nasi Lemak SS4B/10

I was a bit concerned when the lady manning the stall at the junction of SS4B/10 wasn't the usual friendly kakak. Upon speaking to the stall holder, I learnt that the nasi lemak was still made by the usual lady, but she was busy preparing for her daughter's wedding, and thus asked the stand-in to sub. The stand-in actually provides the kuih that the usual hawker sells, in addition to her specialty.

Although it was relatively early in the morning, nearly everything was sold out. I bought the last remaining pack of rice, and took the last few pieces of chicken rendang and fried beef lung (paru), for RM12.50.

The kuih lady was true to her word, the chicken bore the taste print of the usual cook, and was just the way I liked it - a little sweet, not too hot, and layered with lots of local herbs. I didn't like that layer of oil, but I think all rendang dishes suffer from that.
Chicken rendang. I've got to stop using these plates for photography!

The rice was wonderful, as always. Still subtly rich from the coconut milk infusion, and full of the aroma of ginger and screwpine (pandan) leaves. It went wonderfully with the dry-fried style of the beef lungs which were prepared with thick soya sauce, onions and chilli. Not something that everyone considers eating, but I enjoy the masticating!
Fried beef lungs. Pretty exotic for breakfast!
