Love In A Basket

It's a bit late to acknowledge a Valentine's Day gift, but it's never too late to let a buddy know how much they are loved. So, right off the bat, thank you Lim Ying May for the little surprise which came on the heels of a big client meeting, and on the eve of a business trip down South.

Love and appreciation, Lim Ying May style.
Along with the beautiful lilies, which perfumed the house as they opened, this classy, chic delivery basket contained two boxes of chocolates. Yeah, trite, huh? Flowers and chocolates on Valentine's! But consider this friend is a newly returned to work mum suffering from baby withdrawal and one can see why I am so touched.
Belgian, but not my type.
The first box of chocolates we opened were pretty, small rosettes of white and milk chocolates. They were already melting, which boded well, since local chocolate, with their high percentage of palm oil, always holds its shape. However, after refrigeration, when savoured, we found this brand to be pretty average, with an unpleasant stickiness to the texture of the chocolate. If velvet, melting chocolate is what they were after, this one missed the mark.

This one was a keeper.
The larger box of truffles were a lot better. Though refrigeration caused the coffee cream center to harden, there was still a good, rich flavour, and a good melt-rate when this was bitten into. Made with 100 percent pure cocoa butter, these Duc d'O truffles are rarely seen on the shelves, and thus, they made a sweet impression on me, even if the ingredients list reveal palm kernel and palm oil. Love needs to be blind sometimes!
