Spring Golden Restaurant (Please To Meat You)

Humble place, but great food.

Sometimes it's worth getting a bit lost. My brother had taken my father to a restaurant near my brother's office, and dad came back raving about the great barbecued meats. He took my family there recently, and though we ended up touring quite a bit of Shah Alam, we found the place and were rewarded by a truly commendable barbecued meat selection.

Chef Max Lim runs Spring Golden Restaurant. This corner eating shop is a humble place, but people crowd the premises, sitting even on the pedestrian path, nearly over a stinky storm drain, just to enjoy Lim's food. Like most successful Chinese food concerns, Lim concentrates on one key product. Obviously he has got the art down to a science, because people really enjoy his wares.
Roast duck which was up there with the best.

We sampled half a roast duck, a strip of char siew (barbecued pork) and a slab of siew yok (roasted pork belly). All were good. The duck was moist, with just enough fat under the skin to help seal in the juices of the dark meat. The char siew melted in the mouth, in an amazing way, with the lean parts coated by the sweet, sticky fat of the three-layered cut of meat. I know some people may like their char siew a little less sweet, but this was amazing for me.
Char siew and siew yok combination.

I'm not a big fan of siew yok, but I've eaten more than my fair share to say this was one of the better ones, with a great, crisp, crunchy skin, and leaner than usual meat.
Token vegetable for the hunter's table.
Even the plain noodles were good - springy and with good bite.

We enjoyed the meats with a plate of bean sprouts, plain noodles and rice. Humble and assuming, but definitely worth the visit!
