Bear-ably Good

Who can resist a bear? There's something so cuddly and welcoming about these most stuffed of all toys (and the real ones are sweet too!). To have a sandwich imprinted with a bear paw sounded pretty cute too, so in we went to Bear Paw at Paradigm. (I have since found another stand-alone Bear Paw in Kota Damansara too).

This was not one of the original shops in Paradigm.
It's a deli-style store, with a small menu, where diners choose the kind of bread they want, the filling and a drink; with some add-on options. It's not cheap, per se, but it's gimmicky enough for a try.
A small selection makes preparation easier.
The food isn't exactly fast. Slower than a quick-service restaurant (QSR) like McDonald's, faster than a cafe. Possibly about the same time it takes the slowpokes at any Burger King in Malaysia to get an order out. Yes, really!

The sandwiches themselves aren't very big, but they are tasty. Mind you, all the fillings are fried, so there's no real healthy alternative. The whole wheat roll was a little too pale to have a high wholemeal content, but it was toasted evenly, with the outside crisp and the inside still moist. The fish fillet was more breaded than a Fillet O'Fish patty, but it added crunch. I liked how the lettuce was fresh and crisp. The mango Yakult that came with this RM14.90 meal was way too sweet though. Not something I'd order again. And it was a big drink too.

Whole wheat, fish and tartar sauce Bear Paw.
I guess their gimmick is the bear paw on each roll they serve. It's cute, I guess, but will cute satisfy a country in the grip of a credit crunch?

Paws and think if this is really nutritionally sound! Those are BIG sodas.

Bear Paw Meal E was a brown sugar bun with chicken, thousand islands sauce and pineapple. Just writing this makes me wince at the sugar content in this meal. And that's not counting the big passionfruit soda! Sugar quota for two days for RM13.90!

The paw print comes up nicer on a brown sugar bun.
A meal for two was RM28.80. I hazard to say a McDonald's meal may be more filling, and cheaper. Still, it's all about experiences, and this certainly wasn't bad.
