A celebration of Malaysian cuisine, gastronomy and sometimes gluttony as seen from the perspective of an Editorial Director and oft-times Food Editor. There's so much to the food in Malaysia; so many tales behind what we eat, and so many stories for, from, and about the men and women who deliver these food experiences. I want to tell these stories.

Forest mushroom soup was rich and creamy, with nicely roasted flaked almonds. A tad salty, but generally okay for RM8.90.

Seared Atlantic salmon with deep-fried lotus root, Asian greens and teriyaki glaze was a good East-West combination at RM26.90.

Oysters Mornay were a lot better tasting than the shooters. Filled with a rich spinach and cheese sauce, three pieces were RM15.90.

The grilled mixed seafood featured Atlantic salmon, mussels in half shells, scallops, prawns and squid with sauteed Shitake mushrooms and orange emulsion. Pretty tasty for RM26.90.

Some people loathe it, but papaya milkshake is actually a nice combination. RM7.90.

The kid in me loved the rose strawberry magic ball blended, which features these syrup-filled jelly balls which pop in the mouth. RM8.90 for a fun mouthful!

Lavender flower tea is calming and very comforting on a cold night. The fact that it is refillable is a plus point of the RM6.90 pot.
There was a lot of eating during the last quarter of 2011, so I will make my entries brief until I catch up. I had this pleasant lunch with one of fantastic designer friends, Nick Foong. He and I went to college together and meeting up is always a pleasure. This meal was at Tarbush, the place which began my love affair for Middle Eastern food. This is the original branch in Ampang. ![]() |

Vine leaves stuffed with rice are not very popular with the locals who shudder at the briny saltiness of the pickled leaves, but I love them and think they're very refreshing.
